A fifteen minute drive away is the castle town of Okehampton ( the medieval castle is well worth a visit. Done up in the 14 century by the Earl of Devon it is now a splendid ruin). The local Waitrose, Coop and Lidl are here and in Red Lion Yard you can find our excellent Harvest Workers’ Cooperative which also sells great bread.
Our favourite dog walk is opposite the castle in the woods. Great on the way back from a shop in Okehampton, up into the woods where you can search for our favourite most special tree and back along the river bank where there was once a lido fed by the river then a swim for dogs and maybe humans before coming back to relax at Great Burrow.
